The Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre, Durham & Orr St. Cobourg

With the endorsement of the Ontario Ministry of Culture, Cobourg's first heritage centre has been named the Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre, in honour of two men, now deceased, who were instrumental in establishing the Cobourg Museum Foundation.

Doug Sifton and David Cook were among a small group of citizens who, near the end of the 20th century, saw value in saving the old "barracks" building before it became a complete ruin.

In 2008 an 1860s vintage workman's cottage was given to the Foundation and moved to the site. It has been incorporated into the Centre as an administration office, visitors' welcome centre, and meeting facility.
